Outdoor Activities: Bloom is located on eight beautiful acres with a large pond, garden, and orchard with espaliered apples. We are also minutes away from a 16 acre nature reserve and several wonderful forest and ocean shoreline trails, such as Jack Foster Trail which accesses beaches and tidal lagoons.

Kayaking from the end of Arbutus Road, (5 minutes north) you will quickly enter a rich archipelago of small islands that are ideal for day trips.  Picnic for example, on Idol Island, and paddle back home in the beautiful sunset light.  From Hope Point, also nearby, you can easily reach Wallace Island, a Provincial Marine Park.

A ten minute drive to the south is Portlock Park.  There are public tennis courts and a running track.  Across the street is Salt Spring Island Golf and Country Club, open to the public.

Local cafes:  Although there are many restaurants in Ganges, close by is the Seaside Restaurant in Vesuvius and Raven Street Cafe by Fernwood Pier.

Entertainment:  A small sample:  First-run movies at Fritz Cinema located in Central Community Hall, a heritage building.

In Ganges, ArtSpring presents music, dance and theatre of an international calibre.  Every night, all summer, the Tree House Cafe provides a wonderful venue for live, local and off-island music beneath the branches of it’s famous plum tree.

Salt Spring Saturday Market -May to October, where everything is grown, made or baked on the island!  Salt Spring Studio Tour, thirty-four working studios throughout the island -including Blue Horse Gallery!   ArtCraft at Mahon Hall is worth visiting.
